The Conran Shop partners with Malles Design Mediterraneo, presenting their work in the UK for the first time, to show a collection of hand-formed ceramics created by women artisans in Sejnane, a rural community in northern Tunisia. On display and available to purchase at the Sloane Square flagship until 16 May, the pieces celebrate a living craft tradition recognised by UNESCO as Intangible Cultural Heritage since 2018.

Each vase, pot, and sculptural form is shaped entirely by hand using techniques passed down through generations. Working with locally sourced clay, the ceramics are smoothed with sea shells, fired in traditional kilns, and decorated using natural pigments, with some pieces finished through a distinctive straw-firing process that creates deep black tones and smoky textures.

Presented through the initiative Malles, meaning “to give clay a form” in Tunisian dialect, the project highlights not only the objects themselves but the stories of the women who make them. Each ceramic is accompanied by a card sharing the voice of the artisan who shaped it, offering a direct connection to the makers and their craft.
