Brown Betty Teapot (2 Cup) is a re-engineered classic shaped teapot.

The culmination of a seven year PhD by ceramicist Ian McIntyre, Bown Betty re-introduces historical patents from the 1920s, preserving the red clay and Rockingham Glaze whilst implementing new design details. 

Great care has been taken to respect the traditions of this piece which has transcended fashions and trends to become a kitchen classic.

"The Brown Betty teapot is a design classic - one of the most resognisable shapes in British ceramics. It is embedded in our culture with its design evolution spanning decades. Yet for an object of such significance, there is very little formal knowledge surrounding its rich history. I think this is because it has always been a highly functional, everyday tool that has remained outside of fashion and trends - faithfully doing its job in the background. Re-engineering this object was an attempt to re-visit this teapot's history and most innovative moments, in order to re-appraise its cultural value."

The updated design features a non-drip spout, locking lid which stays secure whilst pouring and a stackable form suitable for catering environments. The generously proportioned handle is designed to prevent the hand from touching the body of the pot whilst in use.

Brown Betty is made in Sri Lanka and for the first time is available in a new 2 cup size alongside the classic 4-cup size.

Care Instructions:

Suitable for use in a dishwasher.

To prolong the lifespan of ceramics we recommend handwashing using a soft cloth or sponge and mild dish soap. Dry pieces thoroughly after washing using a soft towel.

If using a dishwasher, we recommend using a low-temperature cycle and taking care not to overstack, ensuring there is space between the pieces, and there are no sharp objects that could scratch or chip the surface.

Suitable for use in a microwave, freezer, or oven up to 210c.

Abrasive sponges, scourers, or products should not be used.

If a piece of ceramic shows any sign of damage such as a crack or chip, we recommend to stop using it as damaged ceramics can suddenly fail and cause injury.
